as a blue person living in a red state I cry because it's all true.

Heard a most interesting discussion on NPR yesterday with a demographer/pollster who points out that America is really mostly purple, and that the closeness of the election proves it.

I, for one, would certainly like to think that most Americans are more moderate than the lunatic fringe from both sides that we had to deal with for the past several months.

I can't remember all of his examples, but on Abortion Rights, he claims that about 10% of Americans are absolutely Pro-Life, about 30% are hard core Pro-Choice and the other 60% are somewhere in the middle -- ie in favor of choice in circumstances such as rape, disease, etc.

In any event, he feels that the "split" in the country isn't nearly as dramatic as all of the pre and post election hoopla would lead us to believe.

Anyone that catagorizes Red and Blue America like that...and anyone that believes that shit is retarded.

I've heard some of the dumbest shit ever on the radio, tv, papers etc about the Democrats coming up with every excuse in the book to explain why they lost. The general belief has been all the red states are hicks and ignorant, that's why we lost.

Classy response. If I didn't already agree (I think), it sure would change my mind.

In all honesty, when I was reading the cartoon, I was thinking that I must be more purple than red or blue. I'm not normally a big fan of NPR, but I would totally agree with this analogy.
