I'm not an immigrant. I'm CBC. My parents came to Canada in the early 70s when they were in their 20s. They didn't give up EVERYTHING, but they gave up some things. Unlike some immigrants, they did not give me a "foreign" first name. They named me Cindy (which I later legally changed to Cynthia, because I wanted a more formal first name on my documents). As for moving to India, yes, I might very well participate in Diwali if I live there permanently, just like I'll celebrate Christmas in January if I move to a country where the predominant faith is Orthodox.
