Maybe some helpful info for you in your badge rescue efforts...

Collectors already know whether the badge is especially important or collectable. In fact, we usually have a better sense of this than the members who are bidding. As a result, you very rarely see a collector overbid on a badge. If member bidding has pushed the badge beyond what we consider market price, we let it go.

You'll find the sellers more cooperative when they don't see you calling them stupid on a message board. Not knowing the greek alphabet does not necessarily mean a seller is stupid. Probably fewer than 5% of Americans know the greek alphabet. The other 95% surely includes doctors, lawyers, brain surgeons and rocket scientists. By contrast, plenty of greeks can recite the greek alphabet but perform in double digits on IQ tests.

Collectors are greek themselves, so they DO understand the significance of the badge. In fact, that's mainly why they collect the badges, because they appreciate the significance. Obviously most of them don't know the full ritualistic significance. But then again, a few do.

Just wanted to correct what I think are some misinterpretations. The more you know, the more effective you'll be at winning your badges.
