Hey, you're talking to a fashion major here!

If you want to get technical about it...many of the styles of the '80s were actually a throwback to the '50s and '60s. I know it's impossible to believe, but it's true--the '80s just gave it their own rather interesting interpretation. Every "new" style is really nothing new...it's been done before, but designers are very crafty about twisting it a little so that it's unrecognizable to the general public. We think of bell-bottoms and platform shoes, say, as belonging in the late '60s and early '70s, but my grandmother was wearing those things in the '30s and '40s. Think about it...in the '50s and '60s, we had popped collars, big hair, and lots of denim. What did we have in the '80s? Popped collars, big hair, and lots of denim.
