I also use the Organic Root Stimulator Herbal cleanse. It has lavender in it and it comes in gel form. I use that the first month of braid-wearing. I use it pretty regularly because I work out everyday and sweat a lot. This product works!
After I've had my braids in a month I will wash my hair once a week with shampoo.
To get rid of the flaking make sure that you keep your braids moisturized (not saturated but moisturized). African Pride has nice products. I also like Kemi Oyl.
Oh...aslo Creme of Nature has a detangling spray that makes it a little easier when it comes time to take your braids out and combing out of the knots and kinks.
