Anybody Have Micro Braids??
Yall I just got down with getting these micro-braids in my hair last week. I love the fact that I don't have to do my hair, but I'm having some issues because Im new to the braids. Well my question is : What is causing my scalp to flake up so bad? I mean i never had dandruff that bad before the braids. And is there something that I can do to relieve some of the itching and the dandruff. I would love to wash it but a friend of mine told me that if I wash them every 2 weeks they will fall out. Ok ladies somebody help cause i don't what to do.
If someone knows of some braid hair-care products that will help me out a lot. thanks :) |
Micros....
If you go to a really good beauty supply store like Gigi's or something like that, you can ask the people behind the counter to show you to the shampoo that is used just for micros.
Its waterless and its a foam that is massaged into the scalp ever so gently and with a warm wash cloth you can wet it and massage the scalp and it should help. When I had micros, the foam didnt really help that much, but it never hurts to try. There are also anti-itch/dandruff oils that work pretty well. Doo-Gro has one that works really well. Hope that helps. Thanks! Q |
I have had them for 3 weeks and trust me I know all too well about the dandruff. I am prone to dandruff anyway but it seems so much worse with the braids. I washed it today with a braid spray shampoo in the shower. I lost one last week after the wash. :(
Queencece I will have to look into that. |

African Pride's Spray on Braid Shampoo. It was like $2 at wal mart. It works well to relieve the itching but I still see some flakes after washing it this morning. From now on I will do like Queencece said and just spray and use a washcloth. |
I have micros and I don't normally wash them like I would my own hair. I found out the hard way when I washed them and lost like half the braids.
However over the 6 years that I have been getting them I have learned to just use a washcloth and spray on braid shampoo to cleanse the scalp. To help the itching I use hair grease to keep the scalp moist and maybe once in a while one of the herbal oils. |
I braid mirco braids, and u shouldn't wash them a whole lot but u do need to wash them. The thing is they do itch alot and then u put grease or braid spray on them and it all builds up and if u dont wash it, white stuff builds up at the base of the braid and it can pull ur hair out when u take the braids out and comb ur hair. But anyways Sulfer is real good and it comes in grease and spray and it will stop the itching. It helps alot and makes the braids last longer if u tie ur hair up every night.

I have braids and I use Organic Root Stimulator Herbal Cleanser. It's a dry shampoo. I don't trust washing my hair because I know that they will take my braids I out. I try to use the herbal cleanser at least once a week because last time I took my braids out, I had clumps of gunk right were the braids started on my hair. It was like dreadlocks. I had to gentry separate each clump and comb through to free my scalp of the clumps. I felt like I was snatching a lot of hair out. However, the braiders told me that I had to comb the knots out before washing it or it would get worse. Take care of the braids. Tie them at night and try the dry shampoo.

Man thank you guys so much, cause I was starting to get self-conscience about these braids. I hate raggedy braids and i dont want to be a victim of that...lol. But again thank you all for your suggestions. Once I find which store those products are located I will be there first thing in the morning. :D |
I also have micros, and if you are seeing a lot of flaking around the hairline , it may be a result of pulling the braids to tight. I learned my lesson with that!

To get rid of the flaking make sure that you keep your braids moisturized (not saturated but moisturized). African Pride has nice products. I also like Kemi Oyl. :) Oh...aslo Creme of Nature has a detangling spray that makes it a little easier when it comes time to take your braids out and combing out of the knots and kinks. |
When I had micro braids, I washed my hair with Dark & Lovely Natrually Herbal Tea Shampoo. It worked really well for me and I didn't ever lose a braid. It also soothed my scalp really well. They also have good oil sheen spray for the hair.

Taking notes here...I wear my hair in braids most of the time...

Which is better?
I am seriously considering braids to relax my hair from the chemicals. I have already shoulder length hair. So should I get human hair or synthetic? does one last longer than other?
I want to have the ends loose so which one would be better. And where I can find out about braid sizes? As you can see I am novice to the braiding thing outside my own hair. |
