Try "Possessing the Secret of Joy" by Alice Walker. The story line is kind of a follow-up to The Color Purple, but deals with a woman's life after she leaves Africa, and how being circumcized has grealty compromised her life. It gets kind of graphic in some parts. I read it some years ago, but it should still be in print.
