At Pitt, all but 2 of the sororities are in Amos Hall, which was THE apartment complex in the 1930-40's. There are 2 full apartments on each floor, and in the past years, it's one sorority to a floor. It's treated just like any of the other dorms, security wise, but that's where the difference stops.

When you get off the elevator, each floor has a Formal end and an Informal end. There's room for 16-17 women to live in the entire suite. The formal side has a HUGE living room (I have the dimensions somewhere - 26' x 50'?) and some have fireplaces. There are 3 bedrooms on that side with connecting bathrooms, and depending on the sorority, either a chapter/dining room or another bedroom, two very small bedrooms with a small sitting area, and a pullman kitchen. The tiny bedrooms were literally for the maids!

On the other side, there is a somewhat smaller informal living room (this is usually where the TVs are), another pullman kitchen, 3 more bedrooms with connecting bathrooms, the tiny bedroom with a storage area, and again, depending on the sorority, another bedroom or a chapter room.

What's nice is each is decorated SO differently, it's fascinating! What's a pain is that the laundry facilities are on the 11th floor, so everyone has to get off on the ADPi's 10th floor & walk up to the laundry room - and spill their soap, scuff the tables/wallpaper (I hate the wallpaper! Scuff away!!), etc in the hallway. I'm sure no one means it, but it gets a little tiresome. When I was an active, we had a maid who always muttered about "those sloppy no-accounts" - you had to know her!

I'm sure there will be other descriptions!

ETA: I think there is a sign out time for visitors, but we didn't have one when I was there. The security has REALLY tightened up since I was an active - before, the ladies who buzzed you in were practically housemothers. Does anyone remember "The Honey Lady"?!?!?!
