I've got an "ethnic" name - its French. Aimée. My middle name is another French name; its a family last name. My last name is also French.
No one can frickin' pronounce it. And when I teach people, most choose not to and call me Amy. It's a perfectly nice name, but ITS NOT MINE.
I would never take the trendy route with names for my kids. My SIL named her little boy Liam, which is way too trendy, and doesn't go with their last name. Thank God it wasn't a girl, she would have been Lola, which is just sending your kid down the road to stripperdom.
Her SIL's kids are named Peyton, Parker and Lauren...really, they should have carried the P-theme. Lauren just doesn't seem to go with the others.
With names, like so much else, one man's trash is another man's treasure!
