I bet the only thing alcohol had to do with it is that it's a depressant, so it may have slowed down her breathing/circulitory system enough so whatever the problem with her heart was actually became a huge problem.
I feel horrible for the brothers. It DOES sound like this was just a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and now not only do THEY look like the bad guys, but they're also probably miserable that a girl they liked died at their house.
