So that's what that's for...!!
AEPhi's pins all have the little triangle-thingy too. Ironically enough, the triangle is the only thing that keeps my chapter guard attached. The little ring that used to be at the end of the chain on my guard (that you can pop open yourself and insert into the little loop on the back of the badge) disappeared, so I stuck the pin through a link on the chain - so as I look down it's clasp - blouse fabric - triangle - end of guard chain - hinge. It looks a little weird, but it works!
