silly pin question...
 

I just got my pin a little over a week ago (yay!!), and I've been wondering ever since...

that little gold thing that's on the actual pin part... what on earth is that for, if anything? do you leave it on, take it off...??
my diamond sister and I were trying to figure it out, and nobody seems to know.

Are you talking about a little loop? Do you have a guard on your pin?

If you have the loop, but not the guard, that loop is where the chain to the guard is attached.

Or, am I completely off the mark?

I don't think my pin has a loopy thing? :confused:

I have this weird 3-D tringle-looking thing on the pin part... is that what you are talking about ForeverDiamond? I could never figure out what that was for either. maybe to keep the pin from sagging down and keep it upright? :confused:

what texas*princess said -- the 3-d triangle-looking thing on the part that you would poke through your shirt to wear it.

Now y'all have me VERY curious!!! I have 3 pins, none with said triangle thingie (well, one's a ring).

I'm going to visit the Pitt chapter tonight - you just KNOW I'll be asking to see somebody's pin!!

The triangle thingy is also a guard...it is designed so that if the clasp comes undone that it still stays on your shirt...To work this you remove it first...place the pin on...put the triangle guard in place...then do the clasp...it is great for those who cant buy a nice guard right away...

Nauadpi is totally correct! At my chapter we called the little triangle on the pin "a hershey kiss"....it comes in very handy if you can't afford a real guard.

If your triangle guard is anything like mine, first you put the pin throught your clothes, next put that triangle thing on, and then shut the clasp. If the clasp opens, it won't fall off. If you don't have one of those guards, an earring back works just as well. :)

And believe me I am not surprised that people dont know what they are...I have been going through and trying to teach my chapter about them, since we have sadly had too many people lose their pins because the clasp pops open...

I can't even begin to tell you how thankful I am that I found out what it was... I just went to take my pin off, and that's all that was holding it on! A whole garden of violets to nauadpi for saving me a lot of money!!!

you know, it makes perfect sense that the purpose of a "guard" would be to prevent losing your pin if the clasp pops open, but I never put 2 and 2 together! Learn something new everyday...

Take my word for it-- it is worth the money to buy a guard for your badge! I lost my badge my first year as an ADPi during an outside candlelighting ceremony on the lawn of our chapter house--- at the end of a candlelighting, we all do a cheer which involves running and hugging and being loud-- our lawn is HUGE, and alas, my pin was gone! I reordered one immediately of course (the first one was a plain pin, and my newer one has pearls and emeralds). It is worth it to have the guard because your badge is doubly protected from coming undone!
