Star Jones to Follow Al Roker to Operating Room

Star Jones, the TV personality and spokeswoman for Payless shoes, will meet with doctors at Lenox Hill this week to discuss gastric bypass surgery, an operation that attracted widespread attention after Al Roker underwent the procedure last year. "Yes, it's a serious medical procedure," said Jones, "but at 350 pounds, it's something I'm willing to consider." Jones said she would be meeting with Dr. Marina Kurian, an obesity expert at Lenox Hill who operated on Roker. "Star is morbidly obese and other weight-loss techniques have clearly not worked," said Dr. Kurian. "It's time to consider a more aggressive course of action," she explained. Although Jones has said in the past that she is comfortable with her weight, she confirmed that executives at Payless have expressed concern about her ballooning figure. "Her look is becoming increasingly unappealing," said John Haugh, Chief Marketing Officer for Payless when asked whether Payless intended to keep Jones on board as the company's spokesperson. "Her weight is troubling and, to make matters worse, we know for a fact that she hasn't been wearing Payless shoes to any of her public appearances," Haugh said. But it's Jones' weight that seems to be of the most concern. "It's getting to the point where we're having trouble filming commercials with Star and getting her entire body in the frame," Haugh confessed. "The production company thinks a new wide-angle lens might help, but we think Star should bear some responsibility for losing weight," he said.
maybe she is indeed having the procedure done but i don't believe this article is legit, esp. those quotes from john haugh. if he really made those statements and ms. jones or any of those people read them, it wouldn't be her weight they would need to worry about.
