Thank you for sharing. Between you and Monique sharing your experiences, you 2 have made Africa a far more tangible place in my mind.
Your son will see Africa and learn to appreciate what he has here in America so much more. You have taken on a huge undertaking and are commended for it. You are starting your son off at an early age to be educated about Africa -- not just via textbooks, but with his own eyes.
