I'm from Florida, and even though my precinct has nice and simple voting machines, I have volunteered in other precincts that are not that priveleged. People should be able to vote with simplicity and ease--regardless of their economic status and where they might live. Please think about that before you make another comment like that. And maybe you should learn how to spell.
I live in Oklahoma. In a state of only 3 million folks there is a $687 million shortfall in revenue. We're one of the lowest educated states in the country... Somehow we've had a great voting system for YEARS now.. Optical.

In my TV news job I usually get election/hard news beats. Speaking with workers at the elections while getting footage one day I found out our voting system is around 25 years old! So old we can no longer get parts for it and may have to transition to more expensive equipment.

Saying that these counties "can't afford" the equipment is laughable. Dade and Broward (sp?) counties from what information I was able to pick up looked very much more affluent than my Oklahoman counties that were actually consulted by ya'll on how best to do things.

"I voted for number 2!!!" Next time read the name next to the hole you punch.
