The commentary came from
this site, and I do believe that laughter phoenetics vary by culture. With Asian languages in particular, I think the somewhat nasal base of their tongue would be noticeable in laughter. For more insight, feel free to read what Medscape General Medicine says about "laugh notes" in their book "Laughter: A Scientific Investigation." It doesn't directly address laughter by cultures, but it says enough to where I don't feel uncomfortable in my opinion that nuances do exist.
