WTF

WTF!!!!!
This is crazy!!!
I just don't understand. This HAS got to be a Joke. A VERY VERY bad Joke.

I don't even understand why the use of the "n" word was funny! What are they trying to say? And What's up with the black man and a case of 40's?!?!?

Hmmm. I don't know what to say. CT4, where did you get this? Maybe it's an inside joke or something because I'm not understanding. I am clueless as to the point of this skit and I fail to see the humor in the word "nigga" especially from Japanese people.

I got it from a website that was passing it on as an FYI. . . it is a website mixed with commentary and news on Black life.

Not to go really old lady on you, but there were several incidents concerning Japanese folks and racism in the late 1980s, early 1990s that were fairly widely reported. So I wouldn't be surprised about something like this.

Not amusing...

but let's not be so quick to believe the tape's "origins". A quick search of the internet reveals that "Japan One Television" does not exist, the morning news being watched in the movie is actually in Chinese, and at least one of the actors is North American (the "daughter" is Canadian). I've also seen commentary that the little bit of Japanese spoken has an American accent, and that the audience laughter is distinctly NON-Japanese.

My thoughts? Its homebread racism at its best... guised to project a third party as the perpetrator.

I'm not all too bothered at the usage of the N word. Yes, I find it offensive, but until we as a people stop using it to refer to each other, I have little merit to get hot and bothered when somebody else uses it.

The part of the piece that confuses me most is the presence of a Black actor in it. What could they have possibly "sold him on" to make it okay for him to do that feature??

That was the most ill spent FIVE minutes

I am confused!

What is the point of this skit?? It is purely GARBAGE. I am usually the last person to find humor in skits mocking any cultures, but this one was really a piece of crap. I am in total agreement with you, what in the world would make the delivery man do this part?? What a sell out!

What, exactly, is Japanese laughter? Who did this commentary? If there is one thing that's universal, it's laughter; you don't have an accent when you laugh. Do you?

The commentary came from this site, and I do believe that laughter phoenetics vary by culture. With Asian languages in particular, I think the somewhat nasal base of their tongue would be noticeable in laughter. For more insight, feel free to read what Medscape General Medicine says about "laugh notes" in their book "Laughter: A Scientific Investigation." It doesn't directly address laughter by cultures, but it says enough to where I don't feel uncomfortable in my opinion that nuances do exist.
