I think instead of giving potential members 2 weeks to 'interview' current members, it would be more friendly let the Rushees know which actives can be contacted (and during what time frame)with additonal questions outside of the Recruitment events.
Then, set up a schedule with the actives to be available one or two hours each day, at an easy-to-reach location (chapter room, student union, etc.). Have the sisters (1 or 2) wear letters and be available to the potential members at these times. Select different hours each day, for example:
Monday: 9-11
Tuesday: Noon-2
Wednesday: 3-5

Hey...thanks for replying. SO what you are saying is, to have a list of who can be interviewed at certain times at certain places in the union, and make it different times of the days just incase? Right...i think that is a good idea. Thankyou so much for the help!~

I went through informal rush and totally scored on all the goodies. But w/ my sorority we don't give rushees goodies so all I got from them was hugs and smiles and friends.
Most of the sororities gave out bags of cookies and candy. (My blood sugar was thrown off for weeks!)
The most memorable goodies came from Chi Omega.
A single long stemmed carnation on info night.
A small potted carnation the first night.
A mini fish bowl, complete w/ colored marbles and a beautiful beta/fighting fish. (Till this day I don't get how it tied in to either the casino theme or to the chapter.)
Another single carnation at Pref, but this time in a glass vase.
ps
I love the idea of the rush packet!

RUSH "ACESSORIES"
Hello all greeks and especially Rush chairmans. I come today with a question of what you GIVE during Rush. I was thinking about giving them a "RUSH PACKET." I am not sure if some sororities allready do this, but a packet with info of the sorority, the list of the current members, their majors, and where they are from.. A copy of the composite, and then the RUSH info, such as a list of the events and when and where. Etc....I also have little goody bags for them. See, we go through INFORMAL rush, therefore its ok to give out "goody bages."
Another thing I had in mind, was an idea I got from my roomate's honor fraternity 'PHI SIGMA PI.' What they do is, they give the rushees a week to interview atleast 2 members of the fraternity, so that they can get to know someone. I think that sounds like a good idea. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments or advice on what I am going to do next semester. Thanks everyone, and have a Happy Easter. And for those who do not celebrate Easter, have a nice day!!!

Wait - I'm confused. You guys actually get to leave rush parties with little "presents"? On my campus it was strictly forbidden for a rushee to leave a party with so much as a napkin. We were told it was considered dirty rushing and if anyone took ANYTHING from a party that house could get fined big time. Is that not the case in most places?

Hi Veruca--it is forbidden to gice out goodies during formal rush. But in informal rush it is allowed, within reason.

That sounds good. I think I'm gonna try that. Because this way we will have some solid "oompf" to vote on the prospective members. Thanks for the info~!

I'm in Phi Sigma Pi and the interviewing process works great for us. With my chpater we have to interview like 15 sisters and 8 committee chairs by the end of the pledging period. Once a month or so there's an interview party and people are interviewed after study hours. It gives pledges a great chance to get the know everyone better!!
