For what it's worth, I do not support this legislation both as a survivor of sexual assault and as a member of the student judiciary that participates in administrative hearings where students can potentially be removed from campus. I believe that requiring survivors to go to the police in order to seek separation from their attacker on-campus is counterproductive, especially when the police on campus hold beliefs like
this.
I can agree that some schools may need an overhaul in how they hear alleged cases of sexual assault, but forcing survivors to the police first to protect their safety on campus is not the way to do it.
