Don't know about you ladies-- but I'll take fake Ole Miss civility over blatant rejection and coarse/boorish behavior (and that's just the sorority comments mind you) any day. BTW -- Alabama's thread on Greek Rank during rush was almost as cringe-worthy as Michigan.
You sure have a lot of experience going through recruitment. Did you ever manage to join a sorority at any of those places?

Or are you just living the Greek life vicariously through Greek Rank?

Bless your heart.

Great response. I think one of the MAJOR problems at Ole Miss are the alumnae in SOME of the sororities. They are way too involved in the bid lists. It has backfired several times. This feeds the poor mothers intent on making sure their daughters find the "right house". Last year on bid day, there were several parents at the dorms moving their daughters out. A sad part of Ole Miss rush.
The largest freshman class this year is 61% in state. I do think the out of state students may have an impact on some of this eventually.

Not sure if I'm allowed to ask this here but here goes.

Are there any tricks of the trade to know that you really did have a good round or didn't have a good round if you thought you did? I have heard things about indicators being where you sit or if you met many girls vs. meeting one.

I know PNMs are supposed to relax, but girls are speculating and I'm nervous.

Generally speaking (not Ole Miss specific)

Each chapter has their own way of "doing" recruitment when it comes to their parties-chapters of the same sorority do things differently-even in the same state. I would try not to worry too much about what other PNMs are saying. Try to maintain your calm and your wits, and try to keep an open mind. Present yourself the best way you can, and try not to read too much into things that might happen at a particular house.

The girl who seems uninterested in you? This might be her first time rushing as a member and she is really scared and nervous. The girl you met who was bubbly and carried on a great conversation with you? She truly loves to meet people and is a great conversationalist. The chapter where you met the President? She tries to at least say hello to each PNM if time permits. Or it could be something entirely different. The uninterested girl might be distracted because she just received bad news. She could also be tired, sick, hungry, hate rush, or it could be that she is just not enjoying the conversation. You won't know which, so you just have to soldier on and deal with whatever the best you can.

No. You can't read into any of that stuff. It's just different from chapter to chapter, and often not NEARLY as systematic as you might think. For example, PNM's often think that it's a big deal that they get introduced to the chapter president. Maybe that's because the rusher signaled that things weren't going well and the chapter president came over to say hello. Maybe the chapter president said hello to the women who happened to be in the room she needs to be in so that she could be in proper position for the skit. You just can't assume anything until you get your invite list.

All that said, if it helps you be less nervous, know that very few women get entirely released from recruitment.

Chapter numbers at Ole Miss

We have a young lady (daughter of my cousin) going through recruitment at Ole Miss this week. I read the posts about the increase in the number of girls. How does this affect quota in each chapter? Will the chapter totals increase to allow for the larger number? Saying a prayer and crossing my fingers that she will find a group she loves and that loves her!

Quota is based on the numbers of pnms going through recruitment. Higher # of pnms = higher quota.
