Post Rush conversations

As a soon to be rushee, I'm wondering what type of questions to ask during rush in order to learn as much as possible about the sororities as well as to seem like someone who would make a good member. Additionally, any advice on how to answer if a rushee is asked how they would contribute/why they want to join a greek org without sounding overconfident? Thanks!

Virgo,

First of all, research the national histories, philanthropies and programs of the sororities on your campus, then you can use that to ask pertinent questions. For example, if you were visiting Phi Sigma Sigma, you could ask questions like "I know your fraternity supports kidney disease related philanthopies. What do you do locally for this cause? Is this the only philanthropic cause you participate in locally?"

After they answer, you can say (if it's the truth), "That's really great that you volunteer so much. One of the things that appeals to me most about Greek life is the opportunity to volunteer and help others. It's something I've done a lot of in high school."

This of course, leads the sister to ask about your high school volunteer work...and so on.

I don't think you could sound too overconfident unless you said things like "I have great leadership abilities and when I'm chapter president I intend to totally restructure the chapter!" <grin>
