She may feel differently when she is waiting (and waiting) for an elevator at Tut among a crowd of beautiful, over-the-moon delighted girls wearing jerseys and Bid Day shirts from the 7 chapters she thought she was too good to return to. Some long weeks and waits ahead on that front.
I don't think she is going to like it here.

I could not agree with you more. Hartofsec-- to be honest I was always a little shocked by her choice of schools to begin with. Greek life is such a big part of life down south that I can not even imagine how alienated she is going to feel not only tomorrow but throughout football season, formals, spring parties etc…
Sadly she will probably be one of those girls that transfers back up somewhere closer to home and 'bad mouths' the south for the rest of her life- all because she was too short-sighted and snobbish to open up her own horizons….

Backing up to the topic of chapters soliciting recs ... I've never heard of that happening at Alabama. However, I do know that one year, a young lady who I had taught as a 7th grader was going through recruitment at one of the smaller universities in Alabama (not Auburn). I used to teach at a small rural school where few of the students went to college, much less were involved in a GLO.
A friend of mine from in my town, who had been an ABC at Auburn called me late on a Friday evening to ask me about this young lady, who I really hadn't thought of in years. (I had taught both her and her younger sister by this time, and was acquainted with the parents). I assumed that the ABCs at that small university were trying to establish who to invite back for Prefs on Saturday. This is the only example of a solicited rec that I have ever known about.

But at exclusive Northern prep schools, going to UA means either you couldn't get into good private schools or your family needed a huge scholarship, which are not top-dog attributes.

Exactly. Everyone I know who went to an east coast prep school went there in order to get into an Ivy League, or Duke, UVA or Univ of Chicago. UA would have been seen as a failure to them. Maybe getting into a "top" house "makes up" for it?
Personally, I never really knew much about UA except football and recruitment. I wrote a rec for PNM this year (dying to know how it's going for her!) and I was blown away by her and her grades, achievements, everything. She sought out UA from the midwest--she went to an excellent high school up here, and definitely could've gone to our in-state flagship if she wanted to. Sounds to me like you can do a lot worse than going to UA.
I hope this girl and her family grow up.

My girl has three pref parties. Two of them are to groups that she said she would not pledge before recruitment started. I'm proud of her for hanging in there all week and not dropping out as she kept having to establish new favorites.
Considering that the world was going to stop spinning if she didn't get a bid, I think we might have all dodged a bullet.

Because I want to get it right, does Bama guarantee a bid if you maximize your options? Does anyone get dropped after pref?

Is there any school other than Indiana that doesn't follow this policy for pnms who maximize their options?

I can't remember if Nebraska is still dicking around with some kind of remnant of their bed quota, but for the most part, the answer is no.

That's my point. It would be nice if we could say "Indiana is the only special snowflake in this regard. Relax."

I think they got rid of it a couple years ago.
Edit: IP's list still says they set their own quotas, though, so that might just have been wishful thinking on my part. Still, even with chapter-set quotas, the "rule" could be in place. Anyone know?

You sound like you are talking about my hometown or any of the other small towns in the counties surrounding Coffee, and Troy University (maybe even AUM). I'm a Troy alum and quite pleased with the amazing growth they are experiencing. ALL 5 chapters are finally close to the same size. They were far from it when I was a student. One as struggling for several years and was about half the size of the others. CPC stuck to their guns for well over a decade resisting expansion that was constantly being asked for by groups of girls very year (the last added was 37 years ago) It paid off and the houses are bursting at the seems. I know for a fact new housing is being requested. The new Fraternity village was built a few years ago and the fraternities have much smaller numbers. Securing new much larger housing will also be a great draw when expansion takes place. It isn't official yet, but is definitely being discussed. They want to have all their ducks in a row and present the best possible scenario to draw the attention of the NPC chapters.
May all of the chapters get huge classes full of girls who are appreciative of the opportunity to share in the bonds of sisterhood. Unlike Miss Snootiepants, geez how ungrateful!

It's possible if something totally "untoward" was discovered between pref and when the bid list has to be submitted. Otherwise, if you maximize your options and make it thru pref, you will have a bid.

My PNM has 3 parties. Her group did not have to give up their phones. She told us her ranking order going in, but is sounds like she'll be happy with any of the three.
ETA: she texted again after ranking...kept the same order she had in her mind going into pref.

Between this thread and Auburn's, it seems like a lot of PNMs are having very successful recruitments!
