This is very tragic. I think it's too soon to assume that this was a hazing incident, before the investigation is complete. This would be a strange time of the year for pledging activity. It could be a tragic case of ill-preparedness for hiking in hot weather during a chapter camping trip.

Just this week, the Coast Guard rescued a hiker, via helicopter, who didn't have water with her while hiking in the dunes a few miles from my home in a state park along Lake Michigan. Dehydration can set in very quickly in high temperatures, and inexperienced hikers can be unprepared.
