This is so sad. Another fraternity hazing event gone wrong. :( My sympathy and prayers go out to his family.

This is very tragic. I think it's too soon to assume that this was a hazing incident, before the investigation is complete. This would be a strange time of the year for pledging activity. It could be a tragic case of ill-preparedness for hiking in hot weather during a chapter camping trip.

Just this week, the Coast Guard rescued a hiker, via helicopter, who didn't have water with her while hiking in the dunes a few miles from my home in a state park along Lake Michigan. Dehydration can set in very quickly in high temperatures, and inexperienced hikers can be unprepared.

CSU – Northridge has asked the Pi Kappa Phi chapter to “cease and desist” activities pending the investigation of a pledge’s death; please see

The story ^^ indicates that the pledge who died had already decided to drop out of pledging, but went along on activity where he died. Sad, if true.

Cal State Northridge has completed their internal investigation and found this is a case of hazing. Very sad. When will people realize that hazing is not "fun and games"?

Update on this case the family file a law suit against the University, the Fraternity and along with several individual members of the fraternity the article says.
