re-pledging...is this a thing?
Hey all,
So my story is a little bit complicated but I will try to keep it brief. Due to some internal issues, after already becoming a sister of a sorority, I had to resign from the sorority. Let me explain a little bit. I was recruited, became a sister, I was even secretary for a while. Unfortunately due to some personal issues, I had to put sorority life on the back burner and certain people didn't like it.
I turned in my badge and formally resigned. Now I am back on my own two feet and REALLY missing my sisters and the feeling of sisterhood. Is it possible for me to go back to my sorority or will I have to pledge again all over? I'm willing to re-pledge but there's so much involved (big sister choice even though I already had one) and other issues internally.
Have any of you left your sorority and RE-joined?

If you were a member of an NPC sorority then you may be out of luck. Some NPC groups allow for re-instatement after resignation after graduation, some allow for re-instatement while still in school, some do not allow for re-instatement at all.
If you were an initiated member of an NPC, you cannot pledge another NPC at any time.
My advice to you is to contact your (Inter)National headquarters and ask what your options are. If you are allowed to re-instate, there will probably be a re-instatement fee.

Even if it is possible per the national policies of your sorority, your chapter sisters would certinaly have to vote to allow you to be reinstated. You say that "certain people" didn't like what you did. I am only reading what you wrote, but it sounds like reinstatement (you would not pledge again) might not be an option.

As others have said it really depends on your org. OP I would suggest contacting your group's HQ to see if this a possibility. Each org has their own policies on issues such as this.

The OP posted this in the thread about disabilities:

I think, based on the user name, the OP may be a member of an NPC sorority. So I would agree that contacting the headquarters is the best way to go.

I would also like to explain that my school is rather odd in their recruitment procedures. All of the organizations do not rush at the same time and we don't have houses so I pretty much will be going to this recruitment event only.
Then I will talk with our CCD and our new president about my situation. I would like to clarify that the reasons for leaving were financial and personal. I am hoping with my situation having improved, and a large group of girls that I am still close with, that I can plead my case and come back better than ever.
Thanks for all your help.

If this is an NPC group, you should NOT be attending a recruitment event as a PNM. You are not and will not ever be a PNM again. You were a member and resigned your membership. You need to contact your HQ about procedures to be re-instated. You CANNOT be repledged to your group nor any other NPC group - no matter what style recruitment your campus has. What you are doing is very misguided and I urge you not to go to this event.

Wait, are you trying to pledge a local on your campus now? I thought you wanted to try to reaffiliate with DZ.

You have no business going to the recruitment event, especially if it is for your former chapter. It would be weird and awkward and just detract from the purpose of the event: for the active members to focus on meeting PNMS and attracting new members. Your presence is unfair to both the sisters and rushees. Plus, what kind of message would it send to the rushees: "hey, don't bother putting in the time, effort, and money to become a member! You can just hang around for free! Have you met our former sister, the Comeback Kid?"
The leadership of your former chapter likely has no say in whether you can be reinstated or not. You are focusing your efforts on the wrong party. You need to contact your IHQ.

She has never responded to our question regarding whether this is an NPC group. If it is, and someone can figure which campus and which NPC group, I would be more than willing to advise their HQ about what's going on.

In her intro, she said she was a DZ at Gallaudet.

What is a CCD?
And I hope the part in bold was intended to be sarcasm.

The reason I asked these questions is because I have a hole in my heart where the feeling of sisterhood used to be. You all may think that I'm just ignoring your advice but I'm not. I am weighing your advice to what is being told to me by members on campus. I am informing you all of what has happened to keep you updated. THAT WAS IT.
Again...in case the words of this response get twisted any further. I have contacted the correct people in order to get the correct information for headquarters. I am hoping for the best but we will see.

You came here looking for advice. We told you your next steps. You ignored us and said you were going to one of the chapter's recruitment parties. We told you that you shouldn't go. You said you were going anyway.
You said your chapter president is newly appointed, which means she still knows very little about being president, and probably knows nothing about reinstatements and how they're handled (assuming your sorority even allows them).
Just contact headquarters and go from there. All of the knowledgeable, well-experienced NPC members on this site are going to tell you the same thing.

You are overreacting. Please step away from the keyboard. People here were trying to help. Youu got great advice right away. Now it seems that you didn't hear what you wanted to hear; you persisted in justifying your position, and that is why people became irritated.
I wish you good luck. I know that for my organization, the reinstatement process is difficult and few succeed. But you are in a different organization and that may not be the case.

Wow, you are setting yourself up for more heartache. There is a 0.00000001% chance that you will be able to rejoin your sorority. Posting on GC with that organization in your name when you relinquished your letters is inappropriate as is crashing their recruitment parties. You ARE NOT eligible to be recruited. I'm sure you do feel a hole in your heart. It's called regret. Unfortunately, there aren't always ways to fix things you regret. Now is the time for you to sit back and see what, if anything, the organization has to offer you. It is not the time to force yourself. What can you do? Be a friend to those sisters you left behind. Just because you aren't a member doesn't mean you can't still be friends.
