Hopeful mom, all is well. It is amazing how often we see "apart" used instead of "a part" in postings on this site. Ironically, it is usually by a young person who is pining to be "a part" of a sorority instead of "apart" (from) it when it is misused. That is why it always catches our attention here. ;-) No one doubts that you know the difference, and we all make typos and minor errors. (We only doubt that posters know the difference when their entire post is a grammatical hot mess.)
I wish your daughter and others success in their interviews. Yes, a house would be nice, but sorority membership with no house is definitely better than no membership at all at a school like IU. The odds of obtaining membership next year as a sophomore at IU are not worth considering. This is their big chance, and I pray that they will take advantage of it. I know from personal experience that a physical house is not the important thing. Hard to tell that to an 18 year old, though, isn't it. Best of luck.

I totally agree that a sorority is a sorority, regardless if it is housed or not. Thankfully, my daughter has been totally open to either! I am just keeping fingers crossed that she gets this opportunity!! As far the typo police, really? I think if you read my thread, it was pretty clear what I said. I'm just not the type of person who sweats the small stuff. I was shocked that someone would even comment on it. When I started this thread, it was to try to connect with moms with daughters that will hopefully all end up in DphiE. and with the IU recruitment as it is, have far bigger things to worry about, than trying to defend if I made a typo or not. lol

(On the typo issue: I am a college writing instructor, and I do free lance editing. I still make typos and grammar mistakes. Everyone does. My fingers especially have trouble with "your" and "you're" even though I can rattle off the rule without a problem. Just one of those things. )

Good luck to all the women. A colony is exciting!
