Does anyone know how many girls this new colony will be accepting or any other information about it?

Your daughter will want to go ask those questions in person. Typically a colony will take approximately chapter average, but at IU it's a crap shoot. My guess would be +/- 175. But they are not required to take a particular number. They will want a range of freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors, and they will have goals in mind for particular kinds of women that will more than likely make no sense to you. But you can assume they will want leaders who are well-connected on campus, girls who will set them off on the right foot socially (because that is a critical element of Greek Life at IU), and with a physical appearance such that simply being in their letters will be positive marketing.

It seems over the last few years that many colonies are taking fewer than their allowed number so that they can continue to do informal recruitment and give the colony more say over their membership. This is strictly my interpretation of recent numbers, however. And absolutely nobody can or will share any solid numbers or MS goals. Because AGAIN, DPhiE is a private organization and they don't have to divulge or consult with the outside world about who, what, when or why on any of these subjects.

A few helpful points for your daughter (or anyone pursuing colony membership): (1) Don't belabor what did not go well in recruitment. The colonizing group will have studied the campus and will be familiar with the quirks of the campus. Instead, be positive. This advice is similar to job hunting -- don't dwell on the negatives of past jobs. DPhiE surely knows the challenges of IU recruitment, which brings us to (2). Emphasize what you can bring to the colony (not just what a colony can do for you). Each interviewee will have her own strengths (extrovert personality, academics, leadership both overt and collaborative, etc.). A colony will need a mix of attributes. (3) Each NPC group has a lot of experience, particularly with the past several years' expansion boom, in selecting and nurturing colonies. Each has had enough colonies that it has a strategy for long-term success (not just immediate recruitment of numbers). Trust the colonizing team to know what it is doing.

I don't know the slightest thing about how they will do their colony recruitment, but I can tell you generally about how KD did a colony recruitment at Washington University last spring. It might give you a general idea about what sort of goes on.

The chapter consultants spent lots and lots of time tabling and doing campus promotional events. They sponsored an ice cream social for International Women's Friendship Day, for example. PNMs were welcome to stop by the table and any events and talk to the chapter consultants.

If women expressed an interest in joining the colony, the chapter consultant scheduled a coffee date with the PNM

After the coffee dates were done, the PNMs were scheduled for interviews with the chapter consultants and several officers of National Kappa Delta. We did these in small groups of PNMs and officers and consultants.

After that, PNMs were invited to an invitation only party that was more or less a preference party.

The next day, the chapter consultants sent out invitations/regrets to everyone. PNMs who were receiving bids were asked to go to a Bid Night event on campus. There was a ton of food and several dozen alumnae attended to meet the NMs and to show support. It was a really fun, laid back party. Some alumnae from different chapters each did a song or chant for the PNMs. Besides their bid, they all received Bid Night bling - shirts, canvas tote bags, water bottles, stuff. It was a crazy, happy excited room.

During that process, there were membership selection meetings between the chapter consultants and the national officers. They looked at grades and activities, just like regular recruitment.

Check out the facebook page for DPhiE at IU. They have posted photos from events and it says that interviews are still going on. I think they are either closing interviews on the 29th or doing Bid Day on the 29th. I ams sure they have had lots of interest.

Are there any moms on here whose daughter is looking to join the new colony DphiE?

Over the weekend my daughter and I discussed this and I encouraged her to schedule an interview. I think she did but not certain if she'll go through with it. I'm not bringing up the topic again...ball is in her court.

My daughter was reluctant at first as well, but I think she is getting excited about the idea... I've done research on new colonies and it actually sounds like something fun to be apart of.... Hopefully your daughter will warm up to the idea!!!

My daughter interviewed this morning. She said she's interested and will find out tomorrow if she's invited back for the next round. Fingers crossed it works out for both our girls! :-)

That's awesome!!! YES! fingers crossed for both of them, my daughter said she should find out tomorrow morning if she gets another interview!!

It's not just a typo - it's an entirely different meaning...and I assumed you didn't mean what you wrote....but maybe you did...
