My advice, if you are ready to join a sorority, is to rush informally, and if you get a bid you can choose to accept it or not. If you choose not to accept it, you can go through formal recruitment.

Depending on your school, it might not be an issue to try for formal if you choose not to accept a bid from informal. Depending on your school, it might be better to take a bid if you have one from informal as it is unlikely you will receive one through formal as a junior.

Either way, try to obtain recommendations, make sure your outfits/appearance and conversation skills are top notch, and to make sure your grades/resume/involvement is impressive. Having friends in the sororities usually can help you.

Some of this might be wrong/not applicable depending on your school or anything particular to your situation, so I defer to anyone who disagrees and knows better.
