Help!
I'm a sophomore already and I've definitely decided I want to rush!! Our school does formal recruitment in the fall and informal in the winter semester..I missed the formal recruitment because I hadn't decided this then. Should I do an informal rush and just try to learn about all the sororities before hand or should I wait until formal next year? Is being a junior rushing too late? I don't want to not get a bid just because I'm too old.
Thanks :) |

Whether or not you will have a successful rush as a junior depends on your campus.
Don't rush until you are ready to accept a bid. Rushing just to get to know the various groups is kind of a waste. You should be able to get to know the sororities by being on campus & interacting with the members. |
My advice, if you are ready to join a sorority, is to rush informally, and if you get a bid you can choose to accept it or not. If you choose not to accept it, you can go through formal recruitment.
Depending on your school, it might not be an issue to try for formal if you choose not to accept a bid from informal. Depending on your school, it might be better to take a bid if you have one from informal as it is unlikely you will receive one through formal as a junior. Either way, try to obtain recommendations, make sure your outfits/appearance and conversation skills are top notch, and to make sure your grades/resume/involvement is impressive. Having friends in the sororities usually can help you. Some of this might be wrong/not applicable depending on your school or anything particular to your situation, so I defer to anyone who disagrees and knows better. |
I work really hard on my grades, &i'm involved. i'm just looking to get more involved. i love the idea of philanthropies and the bond of the sisters. I know a lot of girls in sororities, and i really want to join, but i don't want to lose out because i'm doing informal recruitment instead of formal.

If you go through informal, meet a wonderful group of women you'd like to join and receive a bid -- you won't be losing out. :)
