If you all haven't seen it, there's a kinda funny, sports-related spoof of made up names. It's from Key & Peele, under the guises of an East-West college bowl of football players. Enjoy. See who's representing your school! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gODZzSOelss

I LOVE THIS. My friends and I quote them at each other all the time. There's a sequel that's not quite as good but is still pretty funny. And now the only way I can pronounce the school known as USF is South Flurrrrida.

My Aunt teaches in an elementary school and she had a student named "Shithead" (pronounced Shy-thead). Thankfully she had time to figure out how it was pronounced before she started calling the role on the first day of class.

A couple of years back on another thread my sister commented that if she ever had twin daughters she would like to name them those fine old Spanish names Conception and Contraception.
I suggested she might consider Mierda and Basura, and then she threw a shoe at me.

I've heard the Le-ah from lots of teachers who "knew someone" with the "Le dash ah" or "Shithead" in their class. I think it's an urban legend.

A friend of mine (LDS) sent this to me. I LOVE it, and if you're a Mormon or are familiar, you'll get a kick out of it too.

There was a family in the town next to mine with the last name Hamm. They named their children Hickory and Honey. I wouldn't have believed it, but I was at sporting event and Hickory Hamm checked into the game.
There was a family who attended the school where I used to work whose last name was Tutt. The girls were all Z names: Zenobia, Zenith and Zelda. The boys all had K names: Korey, Kaleb and King. I kid you not.

I know two twin girls whose names are, I kid you not, Peaches and Cream.
Man, I would be so angry if I was Cream.

I also cannot stand names that are a pretty common name, but spelled way too weird.
For instance, I know a Jacob whose name is spelled Jaekkobe. Poor kid. If you wanna go unique, more power to you. But don't give the kid a common name that everyone is going to misspell for the rest of his life.

Too bad my mother-in-law wasn't told this when my husband was born. He has a common name with two of the letters reversed: Jeffery instead of Jeffrey. People tend to "correct" it to the typical spelling. This has caused him to have to have his passport redone, barely in time for a trip to Australia, and to have the mortgage papers on our first house redone. It's just a pain.
Changing the spelling on a common name creates a lifelong nuisance.
