Day 1: Open House
Few things before I get into the story. First off, since I did go at recruitment last year, I realized that it would be a GREAT learning experience. I learned that you should DEFIANTLY go in with an open mind, and see what each sorority has to offer, because it’s really all positive in the end! I also realized that I lacked any type of confidence, which has tremendously improved since last semester as well!
And now for a quick story. Soo for the most part, I’m more of a tomboy when it comes to clothing. Like I say if I wear yoga pants I look presentable hahahha. So today I had my first outfit ready to go because by the time I had to be at my rho gamma meeting spot, it was the same time that I had class letting out. So I decided to go dressed in my outfit to class. They told us that we were getting pizza for dinner. Seeing that I eat a lot healthier I wanted to pick up a salad. When I got my salad, I was attempting to put on the cover when suddenly it exploded right on my top! Both my top and jeans were new so I was SOOO mad! My roomie was helping me with outfits too and we were like yes you look great! So I run to my class and tell my professor that I need to run back and change, and she’s totally cool with it. My poor roomie is napping and I run into our room and I’m like PLEASE HELP! So within 5 minutes I was able to replace my outfit!
So now we get into the stories!
Kathy- These girls were REALLY sweat! And our conversation flowed pretty well! A lot of them it was their first time on the other side of recruitment but they were doing their jobs extremely well! I was like you guys are doing great though! no need to be nervous! They were really great from being a starting house, and almost everyone I talked too, we bonded because of our love for reality television and the drama surrounding that. Ugh so great!
Next was Rosie. Very informal, they were just telling us about the sorority general history and their philanthropy. I however did like the advice one of the women that was "rushing" me. She told us how regardless if we find a home or not, it's amazing how we are developing skills by being able to talk to a stranger and hold a conversation, because a lot of people can't always do that
Then Caroline was next. In was hard in the beginning because I was already exhausted from the first party ( I didn’t get too much sleep this week because I was super nervous for this recruitment)but as I kept getting switched by different girls, conversation got a lot easier and better and I felt really good with these girls! My sister’s good high school friend was a Caroline at her school back home.
Kim D was next. These girls were the absolute sweetest people ever! They were all so sweet and me and my mom are particularly close to these philanthropy so it was pretty nice hearing what they did with it here. All the girls I talked to were great and I really liked them too.
I think next we had a break? I’m so tired I don’t even remember hahahha.
Next was Melissa. For some reason whenever I would listen out the chapters in my head I ALWAYS forgot Melissa. I have NO idea why, because I loved these women so much! Like we were talking like we knew each other for a while and it was super nice! I really liked them! My friend at another school close by is also a Melissa and she’s literaly the sweetest girl ever, so I really liked this as well. We also talked about reality television here.
Jacqueline was next. I wanna give mad props to the girl that was rushing me first because I think the person that was supposed to take over didn’t come until the last like 5 maybe 10 minutes left of our conversation. But they were like 1 or 2 awkward moments, and they weren’t even like terrible. I just wanted to be like KUDOS TO YOU GIRL! They were a pretty nice chapter, and my RA (who wrote me a good luck note on a cute heart shaped card) is a jacqueline.
Final party YAYY! This was Theresa. They were so comfortable to talk too. I had a really great time here. We also talked about reality television here too and they were giving me advice on how to find a home. They were just a supportive group of girls and it was super nice and yay!
After today we did our rankings. The first 4 slots were labeled number ones, since tomorrow we get to visit up to 4 sororities. and the others were labeled 2 and 3.
My rankings were:
1.Kathy
1.Kim D.
1.Melissa
1.Theresa
2.Caroline
3. Jacqueline
I just wanna add to this as well. I really had no negatives with any of these sororities. They all had great conversations and I would be happy being in any of them to be honest. I’m not a really indecisive person, so I was really surprised when it came to rank them and I was talking to my Rho Gamma being like WHAT DO I DO?! and she’s like “think of the one you would be like HELL YES I wanna go back to you!” ugh they’re such bros, I love it!
