RHONJ Transfer Recruitment Story

Hello all! I’ve been reading this fourm since last year when I was a freshman. I had already decided to transfer by the time my formal recruitment rolled around at my old school, and by talking to my rho chis about it, they suggested that I go through it because my mind could change. It didn’t.

Now I’m at my new school and loving it a LOT more than I did last year, but I still defiantly wanted that sisterhood, which my cousins and sister showed off oh so many times. Quick background about me: I’m the first of my first generation of family to go through the NPC, rather than the NPHC. My parents and brother are so supportive, while my sister is rather angry...

My current school has seven sororities. Of that seven, one is new and is there for the first night of recruitment. It’s also an east coast school, and they hit record number of recruitment with 400 girls signing up.

Since I love reality television, I wanted to do my favorite series, RHONJ. Though I had to add other ex housewives to make it 6, plus adding Rosie hahah

The ladies that will represent the six sororities are:

Caroline
Theresa
Jacqueline
Kathy
Melissa
Kim D.

with Rosie being the new one coming on campus.

I have the entire story typed out, but won't post the next part until early tomorrow or late Wednesday, the test gods gave me 3 all on thursday that I'm studying for super hard!

Day 1: Open House

Few things before I get into the story. First off, since I did go at recruitment last year, I realized that it would be a GREAT learning experience. I learned that you should DEFIANTLY go in with an open mind, and see what each sorority has to offer, because it’s really all positive in the end! I also realized that I lacked any type of confidence, which has tremendously improved since last semester as well!

And now for a quick story. Soo for the most part, I’m more of a tomboy when it comes to clothing. Like I say if I wear yoga pants I look presentable hahahha. So today I had my first outfit ready to go because by the time I had to be at my rho gamma meeting spot, it was the same time that I had class letting out. So I decided to go dressed in my outfit to class. They told us that we were getting pizza for dinner. Seeing that I eat a lot healthier I wanted to pick up a salad. When I got my salad, I was attempting to put on the cover when suddenly it exploded right on my top! Both my top and jeans were new so I was SOOO mad! My roomie was helping me with outfits too and we were like yes you look great! So I run to my class and tell my professor that I need to run back and change, and she’s totally cool with it. My poor roomie is napping and I run into our room and I’m like PLEASE HELP! So within 5 minutes I was able to replace my outfit!

So now we get into the stories!

Kathy-
These girls were REALLY sweat! And our conversation flowed pretty well! A lot of them it was their first time on the other side of recruitment but they were doing their jobs extremely well! I was like you guys are doing great though! no need to be nervous! They were really great from being a starting house, and almost everyone I talked too, we bonded because of our love for reality television and the drama surrounding that. Ugh so great!

Next was Rosie. Very informal, they were just telling us about the sorority general history and their philanthropy. I however did like the advice one of the women that was "rushing" me. She told us how regardless if we find a home or not, it's amazing how we are developing skills by being able to talk to a stranger and hold a conversation, because a lot of people can't always do that

Then Caroline was next. In was hard in the beginning because I was already exhausted from the first party ( I didn’t get too much sleep this week because I was super nervous for this recruitment)but as I kept getting switched by different girls, conversation got a lot easier and better and I felt really good with these girls! My sister’s good high school friend was a Caroline at her school back home.

Kim D was next. These girls were the absolute sweetest people ever! They were all so sweet and me and my mom are particularly close to these philanthropy so it was pretty nice hearing what they did with it here. All the girls I talked to were great and I really liked them too.

I think next we had a break? I’m so tired I don’t even remember hahahha.

Next was Melissa. For some reason whenever I would listen out the chapters in my head I ALWAYS forgot Melissa. I have NO idea why, because I loved these women so much! Like we were talking like we knew each other for a while and it was super nice! I really liked them! My friend at another school close by is also a Melissa and she’s literaly the sweetest girl ever, so I really liked this as well. We also talked about reality television here.

Jacqueline was next. I wanna give mad props to the girl that was rushing me first because I think the person that was supposed to take over didn’t come until the last like 5 maybe 10 minutes left of our conversation. But they were like 1 or 2 awkward moments, and they weren’t even like terrible. I just wanted to be like KUDOS TO YOU GIRL! They were a pretty nice chapter, and my RA (who wrote me a good luck note on a cute heart shaped card) is a jacqueline.

Final party YAYY! This was Theresa. They were so comfortable to talk too. I had a really great time here. We also talked about reality television here too and they were giving me advice on how to find a home. They were just a supportive group of girls and it was super nice and yay!

After today we did our rankings. The first 4 slots were labeled number ones, since tomorrow we get to visit up to 4 sororities. and the others were labeled 2 and 3.

My rankings were:
1.Kathy
1.Kim D.
1.Melissa
1.Theresa
2.Caroline
3. Jacqueline

I just wanna add to this as well. I really had no negatives with any of these sororities. They all had great conversations and I would be happy being in any of them to be honest. I’m not a really indecisive person, so I was really surprised when it came to rank them and I was talking to my Rho Gamma being like WHAT DO I DO?! and she’s like “think of the one you would be like HELL YES I wanna go back to you!” ugh they’re such bros, I love it!

Benzgirl 09-24-2013 06:50 PM

I have a real hard time connecting Kim D with sweet.

candygirl200413 09-26-2013 03:09 PM

LOL Benzgirl, when I was writing it, I was like " I hope they don't actually connect their personalities with the sororities" since we all know Kim D is the absolute worst!

Day 2: Philanthropy Day

So I woke up this morning with my throat feeling SOO dry! (probs from the talking/lack of moisture in my room this pass week) so it slightly killed to talk, but it was all good! I went to my meeting group and we had to wait until we got a majority of our group, and then we were able to check our schedules. Out of a possible 4 houses, I got invited only back to...

1.Jacqueline
1.Kathy

Now I know I still kept an open mind, but not gonna lie it was still a blow to my ego! Of course once I saw my little list I was like WHY DID I DO WRONG THE FIRST TIME? SOMETHING I SAID? SOMETHING I DID?! but it all went away!

Jacqueline: We made little bracelets during our craft. I had the same girl who talked to me yesterday who never got bump until the last like 5 minutes. I ended up talking to her the WHOLE entire party, which again kudos for her to keep going for a solid 45 minutes! It was hard to talk to her with everyone else talking as well, but we did have some good conversation at the same time! They showed us a video and I loved how their sisterhood looked! everyone looked so happy!

Kathy: Again I was ECSTATIC! to get invited back here! I really liked the conversation we had here, and I loved their sisterhood so much! It was like I had that feeling, like this is where I’m supposed to be! Ugh so much love so much love! Again we bonded over our love for bonding and reality television!

Thank the Lord my parties were consecutive so after my last one I was done for the day. Since I only had two, I ranked it like

1.Jacqueline
2.Kathy

Tomorrow is Preference night! This week truly went so quickly! In just 2 days I’ll know where my home is!

I'm sort of surprised at the order. I thought it was Kathy that you loved best.

It doesn't matter because the number of chapters she returned to this round is less than or equal to the number groups she can attend for prefs.

Day 3 Preference Night:
I’m super surprised that I was able to sleep the whole night due to being EXTREMELY nervous. I got lost going to the room where I was supposed to find my rho gamma group, but finally did 15 minutes after we were supposed to be there, oops....
We finally got our schedules and mine was listed:

Jacqueline
Kathy

I was SOOO EXCITED Kathy invited me back! I had a positive feeling the first night and I’m so glad it only got bigger since then.

Jacqueline: Instead of having the same girl I had last time, I had a new girl. Today they told us why they picked Jacqueline and why it meant to them. The girl I had was actually a mother, she was a non-traditional student with children and is now graduating with honors this year and applying to law school. Her entire story was so moving and if I was a super emotional person I would have TOTALLY be bawling just like she was. Her story was incredibly moving and I told her so many times how thankful I was that she shared her story. We talked about their sisterhood, and overall it was a great party.

Kathy: It was kind of funny walking in because I was matching with many of the sisters based on what I was wearing. I had an amazing conversation with one of the sisters, who I haven’t talked to before. She also got really person with me, and as time went on I was like this is where I’m supposed to be. Like everything they shared about their sorority, the sisterhood, the memories ugh it was just so good! I told the sister that I felt so comfortable and she was getting that “I’m totally not going to cry, but I will sooner or later start to cry” face and I was like THIS IS MY HOME!

When I got back to the same room, we finally ranked once more. I ranked mine:

1.Kathy
2.Jacqueline

Overall I loved this night a lot, and now I have to wait one more day to FINALLY get my bid! I totally remember people talking about how you can like “suicide” your preference and I was super confused because we never had that last year when I went through recruitment. So I filled that out and I can only hope for the best! Only thing that will suck is that I can’t run to my new home because of a class activity :(

MTSUGURL 09-27-2013 01:18 PM

Sounds like that either way you'll end up somewhere you'll love! Good luck!
