You mean the police when they perform warrentless stops on people? There are ways to lower crime rates without resorting to unconstitutional methods. All programs like stop and frisk do is make it so that minority groups do not trust the police, and are thus less likely to report crimes.

There are many tools that can be used. Gun buybacks, community policing, and yes strong social pressure. There are a lot of factors involved in creating violence, and a lot of factors needed to reduce it. One of those is the popular media, which is overwhelmingly controlled by upper class Caucasians and targeted at middle class Caucasians.

You mean well educated middle class Americans? Because that is what I am. Caucasian does not always mean affluent, just as non-Caucasian does not always mean impoverished.

And to address your other two points, I will say this. First while 500 deaths a year (which is an inaccurate number) is a tragedy, compared to population, it only works out to about 6.3 per 100K people, which is lower then many other cities. Second, stop and frisk requires reasonable suspension which is actually even a lower standard then probable cause, which is part of the problem. If you look at the number, the majority of people stopped are Hispanic or Black, yet the majority of seizures occur for Caucasian suspects.

Your main disadvantage is bad parenting.

Shit. I can't imagine how far I would have gone by now if I have only had good parenting. I guess being a first generation college graduate isn't enough.

Have any of you walked in the shoes of either those who stopped them or those who were stopped?

Been there as a COP. Started in 1969 and that is when riots started. Worked in the North end, namely Black area. Had no problem as I got along with the people.
Worked Western area, mostly white area.
I stopped people when I saw a law broken, I didn't care who they were. They screwed up, I went after the, period.

But yes some others were not me!

If a certain group causes problems then that skews guys minds. It boild down, certain groups be on guard or maybe get shot/killed.

Have any of you been shot? I have, guess what it hurt, DAH!
