Fluffy called yesterday in a panic. The PNMs were told to pick up their invitations in 2 groups - an early group and a later one. Fluffy was assigned to the later group. Everyone Fluffy knew was invited to the early one, and she was convinced that the early session was for the girls that were wanted and the late session was for leftovers. I was so glad she called, since this was NOT something to worry about!
Fluffy was very nervous. She could receive 2 invitations, but she was worried she would only have 1. I talked her down - it only takes 1, blah blah blah. I made her promise that she would attend whatever party/parties to which she was invited, and make no decisions until afterwards. She sent me a picture. Her dress was on the casual side, but she looked very cute and happy.
An hour later I got a text from Fluffy. It read Cindy and Marcia. Her beloved Alice had dropped her. I hoped she was ok with that. I wished that I could have talked to her to say, who wants to be an Alice anyway? Who wants to be middle-aged and working for a family whose Mom doesn't have any responsibilities? Who wants to secretly date a butcher and wear a blue maid dress every single day????
Fluffy called very late that night to tell me she was finished with recruitment. She had attended both pref parties and was exhausted. First and foremost, I wanted to know if she had ranked both chapters. If so, I knew she almost certainly would get a bid. I couldn't get that out of her.
She went to Marcia first. She said she liked them better this night than she had the previous 2 parties. They were very nice to her and she felt wanted. They weren't anything like that Jerry Rogers from Fairview High who was only using her to steal Greg's football playbook. No, these girls were genuine and sweet. They sang some pretty songs which reminded her of the Silver Platters. Then she had a fancy dessert. She said there was a bit of awkwardness because at one point everyone was crying - the other PNMs, the Marcias - but not her. Fluffy isn't a crier. She didn't know what to do while everyone else was crying. She hoped they weren't offended.
Next Fluffy went to Cindy. She said that if she ends up a Cindy it would be a God thing since her closest friend just pledged Cindy at another school. Her party at the Cindy house reminded her of her siblings. The Cindys sang songs, which reminded her of Johnny Bravo, except less groovy and more sappy. Then, her rusher read her a letter. It reminded her of when another Cindy wrote a letter to Joe Namath saying that Bobby was dying and his last wish was to meet him. Would Fluffy's wish come true like Bobby's did? Would she become a Cindy? Would she play catch on the astro turf yard with Joe Namath?
Fluffy got on the bus back to the ranking site. She was back and forth considering who to choose. It was tough. She remembered when Greg had to choose the head cheerleader. Decisions like this are so complicated! Fluffy enjoyed both parties and decided that even though she wanted Cindy more than Marcia, she would be open to either one. She completed her ranking:
Cindy
Marcia
Now she just needed to wait until tomorrow night to find out what she would be...
BTW, Fluffy's roommate preffed Alice and Carol, and is hoping for Alice.
