I believe knowledge is power, and PNM's come here for advice and knowledge. If we don't give them honest, accurate information, they will be ill-prepared, which could lead to a bad impression of the Greek community in general.[/QUOTE]

As an oos pnm, knowing that some houses make early cuts based on grades alone, actually makes me feel better because I have a solid GPA, so thank you!

And that is where I worry PNMs may be misled accidentally. Chapters may know even before recruitment that Bertha Badgrades and Lauren LowGPA will be dropped after round 1, but that does not mean that Betsy Boring and Patty Promiscuous are safe until round 2 just because their GPAs are good. Large chapters, particularly at SEC schools and using RFM, must make very steep cuts during the first and second rounds of recruitment. Dropping girls after round 1 who do not make their grade requirements is a simple way to tackle some of those cuts, but by no means does it guarantee a return invite for round 2 to any PNM with a 4.0.

She didn't say grades alone. She said grades and QR (questionable reputation). The second is what is sticking in my lil ol craw. As I told her in a PM, I find it amusing that she has the vapors over the suggestion of a cuss word but finds it perfectly acceptable that a girl's happiness in college and perhaps afterward can be scuttled by rumor and innuendo without the girl even being given a chance to prove herself.

And MP, preach it. I know that we don't want PNMs to think everything is roses and daisies, but some of the stuff on here is just a little too close to private for me to feel good about it. It's hard for me to reconcile the "look how many OOS PNMs there are" threads with some of the things being said.

The effect - and even perception -- of reputation has been discussed often on this forum -- it is not specific to any particular chapter's membership selection.

Alums of any chapter can send a negative recommendation -- this has been discussed here. PNMs are advised (here, elsewhere, and even by HS guidance counselors) to sanitize their social media for this reason.

So some truthful advice -- PNMs would be wise to be cautious about their behavior (including when they land on the Ole Miss campus), and also with their social media. Twenty minutes worth of a "chance" to prove oneself may not be enough to overcome an impression already formed (whether it is accurate or not, unfortunately).

If in doubt, err on the side of caution. If something on your social media can be misinterpreted in a negative way, remove it. Crazy funny party pics may not favorably impress actives and alums.

Neither will tweeting "STFU."
