I haven't had this in a long time, but one of my friends in Indiana used to soak onions in vinegar and let it sit for a while. When they were done, they came out sweet-ish. We used to sit on the porch and snack on them. They were so good lol

This reminds me of one of my family's favorite summer side dishes... We soak onions and cucumbers in vinegar for at least an hour, and pour that mixture over cooked fresh-from-the-garden green beans, and top it all off with slices of fresh tomatoes.

Okay, call me crazy, but I'm convinced that the blood bank is THE very best place to find someone immensely datable! I went there whenever I was single for a few months.

You know that the person is healthy, no diseases, philanthropic, and can handle a little pain, all in the time it takes to donate a pint! In all seriousness, after I was out of school (all greeks had to at least attempt to give blood for Greek Week), every time I was at the blood bank, I met someone interesting.

I would given my blood type, but I like getting tattooed, and you have to wait a full year after getting one to donate.

(I haven't been eligible since June of 2009)

The Red Cross could teach the TSA and Match.com a thing or two about screening people.

There is no GOOD way to make cabbage. I was forced to eat corned beef and cabbage every St. Patrick's Day throughout my childhood. My mother boiled the cabbage until it looked, felt, and tasted like Saran Wrap - and she was part Irish! *barf*

Sushi falls under the "don't knock it until you try it" category. I was introduced to sushi by a couple of my sorority sisters. In turn, I got my mother to try sushi - she liked it but wasn't a big fan. A couple of friends of mine and I dragged my husband to a sushi bar back when he and I were dating - and although he claims to have been "shanghaied to a sushi bar" he loved it, and loves sushi to this day.

Donating blood - I did it once, and I nearly passed out TWICE immediately following the donation. I'm O-negative, universal donor, but given my unpleasant experience as a blood donor, I will only give blood for immediate family.

Chicken hearts.

I would have thought yuck until I was in a Brazilian Steakhouse in Rio and the waiter slid a pile o' sizzling chicken hearts with aorta and pulmonary arteries still attached from his skewer onto my plate. I decided to be a good tourist and give it a try. It was the perfect chicken flavor with a crispy surface pop and chewy interior. They were hot, juicy and salty. Perfect! When I go to Brazil now, I crave chicken hearts.

I know this is not the spirit of this thread, but this is a sentence that I am 99.99% positive that I will never say:

^^^I tried one a few years ago. I haven't had one again. It wasn't my cup of tea.

Cheese curds. I had never been exposed to these wonderful things until I moved to the Midwest. Their appearance was off-putting for me at first though.

Shrimp and grits. When I moved to the Southeast, I thought they just didn't sound right together. Cooked with bacon, though...yum!

I want to try these. This is the specialty item at one of the restaurants in my daughter's college town. I have to try these during fall drop off or parents' weekend.
