As reported on CNN....is this a true story? If so very sad, and if its made up by the guy who claims he was attacked, then shame!
(I have seen stories in the past where someone white blames a crime on a black person, to only find out that they were lying!)

The only story I can think of off the top of my head is that woman (Susan Smith?) who drowned her 3 boys by driving her van into a lake. IIRC her claims of being carjacked by a black male were made to throw the police off, not as to set it up as a racially motivated crime.

Bethany Storro. Ashley Todd. Amanda Knox.
Those three came up at the top of my head. Clearly white girls in trouble find that their crazy will be overlooked if they just blame a black person!

Do you think that part of the reason why they do it is so that it seems like a random crime, acted out by someone who they don't know? In other words, it wouldn't implicate any of their family members, and most likely, none (or very few) of their friends, so they claim it's a person of another race. Making it seem random means that investigators know going in that to find the perpetrator is going to be difficult - if not impossible - and it takes the focus off of the "victim's" life.
Just a thought.

Maybe. But, they're more likely to be believed if they blame a black or Hispanic person, more specifically a black man.

I don't think it's part of the reason..it's all of the reason. Pick a random supposed suspect that is totally opposite of you and a total stranger and act like it was a random crime to throw the investigation off of you. It's also normal to forget or not notice facial features of people of other races when under duress so one wouldn't have to worry about having to describe the "suspect" in too much detail either.
