UpS AnD dOwNs Of sorority recriutment
Blue
Pink
Purple
Yellow
Orange
So I never really expected to go to college and join a sorority, and there is only one person in my family who was Greek in college. But then I went to an event that my school has to get girls interested in rush and after that day I could see myself at least going through the process. I felt so comfortable in the Blue and Orange houses I could see myself being happy in either of them. So during winter break I registered for Formal Recruitment next semester.
Saturday: house tours
Thursday: Philanthropy
Friday: Sisterhood
Saturday: Preference
Sunday: Bid
I was so excited for House Tours. I could not wait to go through all the houses again and see if my feelings were the same or if they had changed. But at the same time I wanted to keep an open mind. First we met our Rho Gammas and got into our groups then we went to the houses. My first house was Purple, and I liked it better than I did the first time. Then it was Yellow and that one was different then before too. Next house we went to was Pink my feelings for that one kind of stayed the same I just could not see myself being me in that house still. Then we went to Blue and had all this built up anticipation but at the same time worried because my feelings for the other houses had changed. The last house we went to was Orange. After I felt more confused than ever. I had been so sure that blue would be the house for me and now I didn’t know.
Thursday came and I decided to keep an open minded because we would be going back to all the houses again. The first house was Blue and I loved it could not remember what turned me off to begin with. Next was Orange and I had an amazing time there too. Then we went to Purple and I had this awkward uncomfortable feeling being there and I had felt the same way the first time I got to visit the house. Next we went to Yellow, and that house was ok. Last was Pink and I could not really see myself living there. At the end we had to rank the houses
Blue-1
Pink-1
Orange-1
Yellow-1
Purple-5
Now I had to wait all day for the following night. What was going to happen that night was the only thing on my mind. We met our Rho Gammas and the hand us our schedule for the night. When I looked at it I only had one party Orange. I couldn’t believe I thought I did great Philanthropy night. I couldn’t believe that I got cut from every house but one. I didn’t want to cry because I had liked Orange but it still hurt to know that I wouldn’t be getting into Blue like I wanted. And to make matters worse After Philanthropy night I had gotten the flu. I wasn’t evening feeling well and now I had to go act like I wasn’t hurt and push back being sick. So I put on a smile and went to the Orange house. And despite all the problems I had fun, I liked being in the house and I knew a lot of the members. After that I had to wait for everyone else to come back from their parties so we could fill out the cards to rank. When the time came to fill it out I stared at it I could rank Orange number 1 or I could stop rushing all together. Well I decide that I would rather go through the whole thing and be kicked out rather than maybe have one house that truly wants me and drop out.
Preference night was amazing. To be honest the whole day I kept looking at my phone waiting for my rho gammas to call or text and tell me I did not get asked back. Especially after I had been such a klutz and spilt milkshake on myself during sisterhood night. But I went to the house and the ceremony that Orange did was beautiful, it made me cry. I was so glad that I did not give up and let things ruin my chance of finding my home away from home.
Bid day was nerve racking we had to wait in our rooms for the rho gammas to come around and give us our invitations. I was sitting in my room freaking out, think about all the little mistakes I made and when I heard that knock on my door I couldn’t breathe, I was so shocked that Orange invited me to join. When I looked at the invitation I just could not be any happier then I was then. Now I can say I am proud to be a Kappa Delta- Alpha Nu Chapter

This story really just made me speechless. I'm SO happy you've found your home here in KD, and I'm thrilled to be able to call you my sister! I know how rough recruitment can be, especially when you get cut from every house but one (I was there), but it's so worth it in the end! Welcome home

Congratulations on joining a wonderful sisterhood and a wonderful chapter. My son graduated from Witt and the KDs are very special there. They have been on fire the past few years so fasten your seatbelt! So glad you stayed with it and got your bid to our beloved KD.
