No, really. I had to do it for storytime at B&N.

Had to or wanted to?

I have an almost six year old. We have no cable or dish. I despise 99% of television programming and commercials. We have invested in a lot of DVDs of shows we think are worthwhile. The good list:

*Baby Einsteins
*Little Einsteins
*Little Bear (I. LOVE. THESE.)
*Curious George (These are fantastic and you can pick them up for $5 at Target and Meijer for 8 episodes)
*Winnie the Pooh
*Leapfrog
*Thomas the Train
*Angelina Ballerina (library)
*Bob the Builder (library)

We've also let her watch some things on YouTube like old Loony Tunes that are appropriate and Baby Loony Tunes.

We also own all of "The Cosby Show" and "Little House on the Prairie". She loves Cosby and she's seen most of the ones that are appropriate for her age. We've watched some of the LHOTP but many of them have really mature topics for a five or six year old.

We brought home Dora and Diego once from the library and said NO WAY. So annoying!!!! Same with Barney. Yuck. I've heard other people complain about Caliou as well. We never tried it.

I highly recommend anything on my list above. All good stuff.

My son loved Thomas the Tank Engine. We went to see Thomas twice.

It made me want to pull my hair out. The original books were charming, but, like happened with Curious George and Winnie the Pooh (boy has Disney ruined that), the series and over-milking and over-marketing left me cold. Granted, I wasn't the target audience. But I was so glad when he outgrew Thomas and moved on to Scooby-Doo.
