The answer then is no. My next question is whether it would be beneficial for our group to do this. Our interest group is very newly formed but that is not to say it could not take on these functions in the upcoming semester. Our exploratory committee is faculty, alumni, current Greeks, etc. determining if our school can handle another sorority and finding organizations interested in colonization. Our interest group is a group of women including myself interested in Greek life who would be the starting members in a colony of the new sorority.

IMO yes.

Functioning as a sorority shows that there IS a need for a 4th sorority. Waiting around for a committee's decision doesn't show much gumption or drive. These are things that sororities look for in interest groups/colonizing members. You're not at a school that sororities are banging down the doors to enter (as opposed to a Mizzou or someplace like that) so you're probably going to be expected to be pretty self-sufficient from the jump.
