Yes, we used brandy. Seriously. It was a Long Time Ago. No way that would happen today.
I will never forget the time that the brandy went POOF! in a huge explosion when lit and the Rush Chair dropped the entire preparation on the floor as she leapt backwards. So much for elegance and impressive style. I don't think we ever made it again after that.
