Never say never. I think it's pretty well established that Neil Armstrong did take his Phi Delt badge to the moon (see article by a member of Phi Delt's General Council at what appears to be an official Phi Delt blog
here), but it's also well established that he didn't leave it there.

I found this paragraph particularly interesting (in terms of what Armstrong carried with him):
Armstrong was a very sentimental person. He carried various momentos with him on his mission including the World Scout Badge in memory of his boyhood days in the Scouts and a piece of tartan in honor of his family's Scottish heritage, but there is no proof he left anything personal behind.
