Fraternity Pins to/around moon?
 

For Alpha Phi Omega, we've always talked about Jim Lovell, who is a brother taking the fraternity pin to/around the moon (Apollo 8/Apollo 13), but I'm having problems finding where it was actually said in the Fraternity magazine. (I'm calling Nationals later today). Which fraternities talk about having fraternity pins taken to/onto the moon and/or where does your National website talk about it?

There are no pins on the moon.

You won't find Inter/National organizations discussing their pins and their trips to the moon because it never happened. You will, on the other hand, find rumors about pins going to the moon on individual chapter websites. It's all myth.

Whether or not his pin was worn to the moon, I think it is really great to be able to claim Jim Lovell as a brother! He's a hero in many ways.http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...mes_Lovell.jpg

Never say never. I think it's pretty well established that Neil Armstrong did take his Phi Delt badge to the moon (see article by a member of Phi Delt's General Council at what appears to be an official Phi Delt blog here), but it's also well established that he didn't leave it there.

I found this paragraph particularly interesting (in terms of what Armstrong carried with him):

Armstrong was a very sentimental person. He carried various momentos with him on his mission including the World Scout Badge in memory of his boyhood days in the Scouts and a piece of tartan in honor of his family's Scottish heritage, but there is no proof he left anything personal behind.

Also I can't see somebody taking something that personal with them and leaving them there. Nor can I see NASA allowing that to happen.

Rhea Seddon, a Sigma Kappa, took her badge on her first Shuttle mission - she (and it) orbited the earth 109 times.

This fact appeared in The Triangle, which I assume makes it true.

Alan Bean took a DEKE flag to the moon. It is now on display at International Headquarters.

Phi Delts!!! first fraternity to have a member walk on the moon, yeah buddy! carried his badge and a small Phi Delt flag to the surface! They are both on display at Phi Delta Theta HQ

Susan Helms, a Chi Omega Special Initiate, took her Chi Omega pin with her on a trip to the Space Station and upon return to earth, donated it to Pi Gamma Chapter (Univ. of New Mexico), her initiating chapter. This badge was "lost/stolen" during a fraternity prank and never recovered.

He was also carrying his Kappa Kappa Psi badge, which is now at HQ in Oklahoma. (Husb is very proud of this fact.)
