I think yes to all. They may have done it that way that one time because UGa had started to defer student acceptances until spring and lots of parents complained that their daughters weren't getting a fair shot in recruitment in the next fall. I believe they have upperclass quotas now, which would have reduced the problem. These girls were often sophomores when they rushed, having spent the first semester in community college.

Do you have any bids at this point? I can't tell if you have none, or if you have one and are waiting on your top choices.
Whatever happens, though, understand that this is a really bizarre situation for all involved, and try not to take it personally. We always tell PNM's that during rush, but this is to the extreme.

The first 48 hour period was up today, so chapters may be issuing new bids very soon to replace those that have 'expired.' As has been said, its only Thursday! Its too early to worry! Stay positive!!

The houses that are looking for 5 girls would be crazy to invite 200 girls to their preference party so that should let a lot of girls down fairly gently and allow them to focus on more realistic options.
Hopefully based on their RFM history they would have a reasonable expectation of how many girls they should invite, even if they aren't following RFM to the letter. And if houses are not being cool about the number of girls they're inviting, then Panhel would have to step in the following year. But I really think now that schools see the beauty of RFM they wouldn't do anything too out of whack.
And then do a bid match with an individual quota like what Nebraska and Indiana do.
Thoughts?

I really like the idea of giving a woman as many choices as possible, and like the idea of her receiving more than one bid. I think it evens out the "mutual" in "mutual selection."
But I can understand the uncertainties inherent when a chapter has to wait and wait to see how many bids are accepted.

any of you gator girls know if the UF sororities participating in spring informal are allowed to hold anymore get-togethers on their own? for instance, ABC sorority handed out 10 bids for 10 spots, 7 girls accepted and 3 declined on Thursday. will ABC be allowed to organize something on their own and invite a few girls that they were interested in, but did not offer bids to, over to the house for dinner?

I don't understand how they're handing out bids! Like if ABC hands out 6 bids and after 2 days, 4 girls have accepted them and 2 turned them down--do they then call the next 2 girls on their list? How long can it go on?

How on earth do they have pledge class activities if they wait to finalize everything for 10 weeks?

The recommendation is that if you tell them they have 48 hours to accept, and they do not, than assume that they have declined. It might be nice if someone from the chapter asked them right before the deadline if they had reconsidered, but they don't have to. The chapter can then call the next girls on their list until they get to total.
The chapter should not have more bids pending then would get them over total. (Its not like NCAA signing day in two weeks where the first people to sign get scholarships up to their annual limit and the others are out of luck.)

The recommendation is that they would start pledge class activities as normal and if someone accepts their bid before big sisters are assigned, they are included in that pledge class. They could make up any important activities they missed. If they accept after bigs are assigned, they are ususually in a new smaller COB Spring 2012 pledge class #2 that would have a smaller initiation at a later date.
Not the best situation, it means a lot more work for the Member Education Team, but it will get the chapter to total, and mean the new girls won't miss out on too much this semester.

From what I've heard Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta & Delta Gamma are done bidding women. I don't know otherwise. Also, if a chapter holds Bid Day in Spring it doesn't mean they are done bidding necessarily - which makes this more difficult for PNMs!!

So, I know its a waiting game, but that doesn't mean you should worry if you haven't been contacted yet. Some chapters may not be bidding on the weekends at all. There's no set period where you should suddenly put on your worry cap, its a strange and ever-changing process!
Also, you can be proactive. You could email the Membership chair of the houses you're interested in and see if you could come to lunch/dinner, or ask someone you know in said chapters.

would that really be okay? putting myself in the PNMs shoes, I would feel very awkward calling the membership chair. Being the membership chair, I would feel really awkward fielding a call from a PNM that we had decided not to invite back to the house. Asking someone they know in the sorority, would be less awkward.

Yeah, its an odd situation.
But there are girls that don't have Greek contacts. Usually their email addresses are available. They could also contact the Panhellenic Membership chair and then make contact that way. But, I do agree it can be awkward. Its such a weird process this year!
My favorite way is if you have a friend take the girl. Even a friend-of-a-friend is a good option!

Agreed-it is such a help if the pnm has someone in the sorority she knows. You have been a tremendous source of info. for any UF PNMs who have come here looking for answers (and for those of us who want to know).
