Most optimally you would contact a local alumnae panhellenic (
www.npcwomen.org) instead of the individual alumnae chapters. As a rep to my alumnae chapter, I have been contacted by women in our area, which I have not minded. However, other chapters may not want to be contacted in this manner, and you never know if the person on the other end of the email is getting your info to the right person.
With several months to prepare, I would suspect that you could find people that you know personally to write your recs. Read the stickies on how to go about this.
