Questing about deferred recruitment
Hey everyone! I have kind of an unusual situation. I am currently a first semster freshman. In January, I will be transfering to a college that does deferred recruitment. I plan to rush and worked it out so that I can, but I am having second thoughts. I know girs that will be rushing with me are already befriending the sorority sisters and attending their events. I am nervous that I will be at a disadvantage if I were to rush agaisnt girls who are already friends with the sisters. Is there anything I can do to help? Any suggestions are greatful and pms are welcome! Thank you!

My advice is quit worrying about things you can't control. Go through rush, have a good time, be nice and be open to every chapter available to you.

But also - why are you transferring already? You said you were a first semester freshman and you are transferring in spring? Don't forget to work on your studies this semester, so that you will have a competitive GPA! |
Another quick tip...use this semester to practice your conversation skills. Strike up conversations whenever you can. The more comfortable you feel talking to complete strangers the better.

abee - be sure to get your rec letters and consult w/ the new school to make sure your GPA transfers. If there's a facebook group for "abee's new school recruitment spring 2012" be sure to join it. While the other girls are having chances to get to know sisters, they are also having chances to do dumbass things like go to a fraternity party and throw up all over a sorority sister's shoes. :) |

you nailed it! Fall acceptance letters went out and I did not recieve my first choice school, only to be contacted by them two weeks later to tell me that I was so close that they could go ahead and admit me for spring term. Thank you all so much! It's all great advice! One more question: If I do not have a friend, relative or aquatance that is in a sorority, could I contact a local alumnae chapter about possibly meeting with someone to write me a letter of recommendation? Or is that a big "no-no"? |

With several months to prepare, I would suspect that you could find people that you know personally to write your recs. Read the stickies on how to go about this. |
Not to be a downer, but you might want to check to make sure that you don't need 12 credits of coursework from your new school to go through recruitment. I've heard of some deferred recruitment schools with this policy. Most don't, but just make sure.

Thank y'all so much! I will check into the 12 hours thing!
