To be clear, I didn't say it is ill-mannered to embarrass someone. I said it is ill-mannered to
intentionally embarrass someone. If one's intent is to let some non-member know that they shouldn't be wearing letters, then there's not necessarily any intentional embarrassment even if there is actual embarrassment.
But I'll defer to your wisdom and insight. This time.

Maybe. (And I'll readily admit that I haven't been faced with this situation, nor do I think it is as common with my org as it may be with some others.)
