It was the 80's. Enough said? I'm sure that's the sort of thing that somebody thought was awfully important, and now it's not worth going through all the marketing/branding to bring Al back. But I'd bet you a dollar when most collegians use a teddy bear theme in anything it's a traditional bear, not the polka dress girl version.
There's also a persistent rumor that Fozzy Bear was named after Alpha Xi. I love the story, but sadly, not true.
And of course the quill is the only symbol that REALLY matters to us.
