Yeah colors or symbols can be difficult to wear, or not look good on everything, without darn near making you frown or cringe.

There are BAD mixes of maroon and lavender but there are very pretty mixes as well.
Hearts and doves are pretty easy, snakes slightly less so, but more ideal for jewelry.
/what you said

Because I'm the big sports fan that I am, I HATE when I see girls wearing pink versions of a Patriots, Bruins or Red Sox jersey. However, funny story...
When I was in college, I had a Penn State shirt made in pink and black, the school's original colors. Everyone at school thought it was awesome, but when I wore it back at home in New England, a couple of my friends said, "Ugh, why did you get one of those 'girly' jerseys?"
And when you tell people that Penn State's original colors were pink and black, it usually leads to a look of disbelief and a Google search.

The fact that you are a Penn State Alumna and you KNEW that makes me really happy! You are pretty awesome! Can you believe those were our old colors? I remember my sorority once had shirts made up in black and pink (pink for obvious reasons) and it said something about bringing it back to PSU old school style. I'll have to find that shirt.
Before going off to college, I tried to go for the grunge look and before that the hippy look (what was I thinking?) so, pink was NOT one of my choice colors. After joining I learned to LOVE pink and now incorporate it into my every day life. I love our symbol the quatrefoil because I see it all over: hotels, fountains, jewelry, churches, cemeteries, etc. I will def. be incorporating the quatrefoil and color pink into my wedding! I have to say that I LOVE our symbols--to include our mascot, the lion!

I was about to be all because I thought you meant the stuff Pink brand Victoria's Secret stuff. Some of it is obnoxious (for example, the shirt that says "Meet me in the dugout" or the panties that says "Designated Kisser"...double ), but I have this one, which I think is cute and non obnoxiously VS at the same time.
But then I realized that you meant sports stuff that is actually pink. I agree with you, I hate that as well!
ETA: This reminds me of when we got hoodies as a chapter. It was during our first semester as a colony and we all wanted hoodies. The sweatshirts ended up being light grey with navy letters and gold borders. Since our colors are double blue (light and dark) and gold, it was perfect. I personally like them; it was nice to have something in our colors. But no... THERE WAS SO. MUCH. WHINING. "They look like boys' sweatshirts!!!" "Why couldn't we get polka dots?" "I'm not even gonna wear this!!" Triple .
Group clothing orders was my absolute least favorite thing of being in a sorority, lol

Agreed. While I love our colors, I rarely wear them in combination b/c the mixes I've found aren't the best. I usually will wear one of the colors in isolation though I did find a gorgeous maternity dress in maroon with a very pretty lavender print that I'll be wearing in Orlando next week at our fancy dinner celebrating our upcoming baby girl.
As for jewelry, I have a LOT of pearl jewelry & though the amethyst isn't an official jewel, it's my birthstone & there is a lot of Sigma Kappa jewelry decorated with amethysts so it works for me. I don't particularly have jewelry with hearts, doves or snakes but I'm ok with that.

A few years ago, i went to the wedding of a sister whose wedding colors were lavender and maroon. Her husband is a Pike so he had to have to maroon part. It actually turned out really pretty. The women wore lavender bridesmaids dresses and their flowers were a beautiful mix of purples, wines, and maroons. The groomsmen wore dark maroon tapestry print vests. It all came together nicely.
