She's a child who chose to put herself out there for the public to make a decision on, one way or the other. She should have realized criticism can come with that. If she doesn't want people contacting her directly, she needs to make herself less accessible. You don't get to have it both ways.

Criticism isn't the point. It's how far people go with the criticism either on the Internet or in person.

Still a child.

Her parents made the ultimate decision, though.

Also, 4chan has published information about her school, her school's calendar, and were talking about doing some kind of Operation Black Friday today.

That's what I'm saying. How did they get that info? Apparently her parents didn't impress upon her to keep it private. In this day and age, you have to assume that when you become ANY sort of public figure, anything that people can access, they will. If you don't want to put up with that, don't be a public figure.

Live by the internet, die by the internet. Sorry if that sounds harsh but it's the truth.

Anyway, this young lady is 13.

If people have an issue with her parents, take it to her parents. Leave this little girl alone. People, especially adults since I expect more from adults than from children, need to laugh at the song without turning everything into a batshit crazy spectacle.

I don't dispute that the song is putting her name out there, but it's out there for the wrong reasons. Unless her voice matures and she comes out with some legit, non-Ark Music Factory hits, she'll go down in history as a joke.

I hate everything you stand for LOL

Yes it is. But if you're savvy enough to market yourself on the internet, you're also savvy enough to know that there are batshit psychos who do crap like that. Proceed accordingly.

Right.

I think that, because of how quickly this song blew up, she and her parents weren't prepared for the privacy breaches, so having websites expose the information is not surprising (although it still shouldn't have been done).

I call BS on the "cyber-bullying" part, though. If you want to be in the limelight, you have to be able to take criticism.

*kid who posted it no longer goes to school there.

If everyone "proceeded accordingly", nothing would be on the internet. Including all of us.

That doesn't mean she's getting what she deserves when people are going out of their way to harass her (which is what the 4chan plot boils down to, although I'm not sure if they carried it out) for putting something on the internet.

Criticism of her stupid video and stupid song are fine by me, even jokes about it are fine, but at some point a line is crossed when information is published that not only puts her safety at risk but that of her classmates as well. The kid's in 8th grade, come on.

If the kid wants to act like an adult, she should expect to be treated like one. Again, I’m not saying she deserves this, but to think that this information absolutely, positively would never be leaked is ignorant. This is the risk you take when plastering yourself all over tv/movies/the internet.

In my opinion, to claim this is cyber-bullying is a bit of a stretch.

Serious question (to those lawyers out there) – I know that cyber-bullying is still a fairly new concept, so maybe no one will really be able to answer this, but… would the burden of proof be similar to that of libel and slander, in regard to the difference between these crimes being committed against someone famous vs. someone like you or me?
